Escape to mountains
🚗 Our Road Trip from LPU to Dharamshala – A Student Escape to mountains
After weeks of lectures, assignments, and hostel routines, we finally hit the road — literally! A group of us from Lovely Professional University (LPU) decided to take a break and head to Dharamshala, one of Himachal Pradesh’s most peaceful and scenic hill towns. We booked a private car, packed our bags with jackets, snacks, and playlists — and off we went!
🛣️ The Drive from LPU to Dharamshala
We started early in the morning from the LPU campus. The drive to Dharamshala took around 6 to 7 hours, covering about 220 km. The route passed through Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, and Kangra before winding into the hills.
The best part of taking a private car?
- We took breaks wherever we wanted — tea stalls, viewpoints, or just roadside dhabas.
- Played our favorite music loud, sang along, and shared stories.
- No stress about catching buses or dealing with crowds.
The views kept getting better — green valleys, cool breeze, and finally, the first sight of mountains was enough to make us forget college stress.
🧘 Reaching Dharamshala – Calm in the Chaos
Once we reached Dharamshala, everything slowed down — in a good way. The clean air, the spiritual vibe, and the sound of prayer flags fluttering in the wind made us feel instantly at peace.
📍 What We Explored:
- McLeod Ganj – The Tibetan market and cafes here are full of life and color.
- Namgyal Monastery – Calm, spiritual, and great for just sitting quietly.
- Bhagsu Waterfall – We trekked up, clicked lots of photos, and even dipped our feet in the ice-cold water!
- St. John in the Wilderness Church – A peaceful, scenic church surrounded by deodar trees.
🍜 Food & Fun
The food was one of the highlights! We tried:
- Steaming hot momos
- Spicy thukpa
- Classic Maggi at the waterfall
- Hot chocolate and coffee at hillside cafés
We also sat at a café in McLeod Ganj for hours just talking and watching the sunset over the mountains.
🧳 What Made the Trip Special
- The freedom of our own car
- Good music and better friends
- Moments of silence looking at the hills
- Laughing, exploring, and just being
